LOGIC NETWORKS / NOC DEVICE INVENTORY CHECKLIST

Count the devices. Clarify the responsibility.

You do not need a perfect asset register to begin a monitoring conversation. You do need to separate the things being counted and make uncertainty visible.

01 / PLANNING NOTE

Start with endpoints

Count Windows desktops and laptops separately from Macs. Note whether they are company-managed, shared, remote, or already covered by another support arrangement. These details help identify access and monitoring dependencies.

02 / PLANNING NOTE

Separate hosts from guests

A physical server host and each guest VM are separate monitoring targets. Count what needs coverage, then describe the relationship. Do not infer a physical host count from the number of virtual machines.

03 / PLANNING NOTE

Walk the network edge

Include firewalls, routers, switches, access points, and other network peripherals. Note the location and operational owner. Device compatibility and the available management interfaces are confirmed during discovery.

04 / PLANNING NOTE

Include the less obvious dependencies

Storage appliances, NAS devices, printers, and UPS units may matter to a critical workflow. Put uncertain equipment in the other-device category with a short note. Our team can help decide what monitoring is useful.

05 / PLANNING NOTE

Turn the inventory into an operating agreement

For each category, decide who reviews alerts, when coverage applies, and what happens next. Ask how monitoring connects to helpdesk requests and how overlap with other service lines is handled.
